Letter to the Editor
Heather Leatherman, Candidate for Carlisle Area School Board
In response to Mr. Galena’s letter on Sept. 19, he asserts that I made “unequivocally false” accusations regarding student performance in the Carlisle school district, but he never actually states what numbers are false. Why is that? Because he, and the candidates he represents, knows they are true.
The numbers I have posted on social media are the results of the Keystone Exam in 2022 for CASD Grade 11 and come directly from the PA Department of Education website: 38.7% below proficient in Algebra, 66.9% below proficient in Biology, and 30.9% below proficient in Literature. While these numbers by themselves are not the whole story, if you look at the results from 2015-2022, it is clear that the test scores are going down, not up.
We speak from state published reports and the sources are stated (see CASDteamforchange.com for these and other performance metrics). Ironic how Galena calls our statements “partisan, misinformation and lies,” which is a typical political maneuver to deflect from the facts.
