Dawn Kephart
Candidate for Carlisle Area School District
As a mother, grandmother, and foster parent to over 20 children, I want to help students reach their goals for the benefit of our community, state, and nation. Before foster care, I worked as an administrative assistant working with programmers, human resources, and accounting departments in Mifflin County before moving to Carlisle in the late 90’s. Once settled in Carlisle, my husband and I started mentoring children which developed into fostering children when they are most vulnerable. Using my business background, I have operated a private tax preparation service. Currently, I drive a bus and volunteer for Furryfriendsnetwork.org, fostering felines.
I believe the current challenges in our schools fracture the potential our children have within them. We can do better.
Here are a few things Dawn Kephart
believes need addressed:
- Academics and programs that teach our children to be honorable individuals, striving to do their best. Standards should be set to achieve higher goals, not set to the lowest bar.
- Giving teachers curriculum that actually matters. Let’s keep to core subjects, not trendy topics.
- Financial accountability. Funds need to be clearly apportioned and approved by the School Board, not vaguely assigned without purpose.
Why Dawn Kephart is running for CASD
I love children and believe that the academic setting they enter each day for 9 months of the year should be safe, encouraging, challenging, and preparing them to be the best they can for themselves and our community as a whole.
