Al Shine
Candidate for Carlisle Area School District
A West Point graduate, I spent 27 years on active duty with the Army including Vietnam combat and teaching U.S. History at West Point, ROTC at Wheaton College, and National Security Strategy at the Army War College. I hold a BS from West Point and an MA in History from Harvard. Following my military service, I spent ten years as an administrator and teacher at a private high school in Indiana. I have also been an occasional substitute teacher in the Carlisle schools for the last 20 years. My wife of 58 years, Sandra, and I have lived in Carlisle since 2000 and have 2 grandchildren currently in the Carlisle Schools, and one grandchild who graduated from Carlisle High School this past June and is currently a freshman at Syracuse University.
In both public and military education, I recognize the importance of a quality foundation upon which to build so we have a safe and peaceful country.
Some of the priority items Al Shine is concerned with:
- Carlisle taxpayers deserve to be funding academic programs that produce confident and productive citizens. The Carlisle schools should be run efficiently with the Board making every effort to ensure that the schools operate within budget, to anticipate future needs, and weigh the cost-benefits of any initiatives.
- Our schools should develop an educated and virtuous citizenry that understands how their government works and the fundamentals of human history in order to live in the future with peace and unity.
- Academic focus should be on subjects that lead to students being prepared for a job, trade school, or college.
Why Al Shine is running for CASD
I’ve seen many challenges face our country. We have a tremendous opportunity with the next school board elections to begin turning the tide and seeing Carlisle schools, students, and community as a whole reach these goals.
