Walt Brown
Candidate for Carlisle Area School District
Walt Brown is a retired Navy Captain, who has lived in the Carlisle, PA community since 2000. He graduated from the US Naval Academy with an undergraduate degree in Engineering. As a life-long learner, he continued his formal education with a Master in Business Administration (MBA) followed by a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) with a major in finance. His research has been published in an academic journal.
Walt sees a number of areas in which he can make an impact for the benefit of families and students as a member of the CASD School Board, defined by the following list of priorities:
- Improving math and reading skills in our students.
The most important responsibility of education to our children is to ensure they have the basic knowledge as building blocks for their future capacity for learning and success in life. At present, the educational testing scores at the state level are unacceptable. Further, CASD testing performance is below that of other school districts in Cumberland County. A plan is needed immediately to correct this declining trend by funding what works and halting what doesn’t. This will help to create a solid foundation upon which to build.
- Fiscal accountability.
Getting a handle on the “General Fund Assigned Categories”, identifying potential cost-saving areas, and minimizing property tax increases.
- Fiscal transparency.
Consolidating financial records in one location on the CASD website to enable constituents to readily identify what is being funded within our school system. Simply put, taxpayers should have easy access to the CASD School Board’s accounting of their use of tax dollars.
Why Walt Brown is running for CASD
I chose Carlisle. Now I choose to serve to help make it better for all of our residents and their children. I’m retired now, so I have the time, education, life experiences, and, most of all, the desire to allow me to help improve our academic profile and priorities, and increase our fiscal responsibility.
